CITA and ICIRR: Two organizations you should know

On Saturday, thousands of people demonstrated in Daley Plaza in opposition to the immigration policies of the Trump Administration, including inhumane detentions, family separations and the planned ICE raids the following day.

Among the organizations present was Chicago Immigrant Transit Assistance (CITA), which provides first aid and emotional support to asylum seekers who are released from ICE detention. They can be the first people who treat asylum seekers with respect and compassion.

If this is something you'd like to support, there are several ways to get involved. You can:

  • Provide ground transportation to people who've been released from ICE detention
  • Contribute to CITA, via the group's Go Fund Me page
  • Invite a CITA representative to speak to your group or workplace
  • Donate items asylum seekers need, like clothing, food and bottled beverages
To learn more, contact CITA at info@CITAChicago.org or 312.725.8595

And if you know someone in need of assistance, call the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR). ICIRR's Family Support Network and Hotline help families threatened and harmed by our immigration system. Among other services, it provides this helpful guide to what to do if ICE knocks on your door or you see ICE activity.

You can reach ICIRR at 855.435.7693
